Rising L.A. Rap Duo OSBS (On Sum Bullsh%t) Releases Sophomore Studio Project ‘PARENTAL ADVISORY’

Despite their youth and the challenges they’ve faced, L.A.’s OSBS (On Sum Bullsh%t) has managed to deliver yet another project that has amazing collabs and a fiercely smooth sound, their second full-length album Parental Advisory. Uneek Music labelmates of the late legend Nipsey Hussle, OSBS (the rap duo comprised of D5 and Smokeone) grappled with the pain of losing their partner in the midst of a dramatic rise to stardom last year, but Nipsey’s legacy and the sounds of South Central are repped hard on Parental Advisory. From the haunting “Marathon Intro” to the hard-hitting “Liu Kang” (featuring two other Los Angeles-based artists Benji Stone and Southside Diddy), OSBS is merging the unmistakable vibe of their home soil with a cutting-edge sound that draws heavily from Atlanta’s trap music stronghold.

Although Smokeone faced a 4 year incarceration term during the beginning of D5’s rap career, the two artists wasted no time honing their chemistry in the studio when he got out in 2018. Within months the duo racked up high-profile collaborations with Gunna, Lil Baby and more. Their track with 2 Chainz off first OSBS album No Cap quickly spawned millions of streams and their nation-wide tour with Wiz Khalifa had them rocking huge crowds right out the gate. The mentor-ship of artists like Khalifa fast-tracked OSBS from a simple start to the big leagues, and as Smoke has mentioned, the relationships they’ve formed mean everything: “My favorite artist to work with is Wiz. The process is so real and authentic; the vibe is unmatched…there’s something about making music with genuine people, especially when you grew up looking up to them and developed a real friendship with them.”
The whirlwind surrounding freshman album No Cap (their unprecedented rise to stardom and the shattering loss of Nipsey Hussle) has solidified into a new level of swag for OSBS…and a sound that the press is calling “addictive.” When asked about the change that’s happened during the making of Parental Advisory, D5 explained, “I feel like the vibe on this album is confidence and we step out of our comfort zone on this one. This album is more US and shows our diversity in mastering our sound. We show we are capable of hooks, verses, unorthodox delivery…all while remaining lyrical. I feel like the ups and downs prepared us for this album.” With such a powerful start to their young career, there’s no doubt they are destined to carry on the HUGE legacy of South Central in the rap game.
